Training students to be teachers and teachers to be students
900-Hour Yoga Therapy Certificate Program
The Surya Chandra Healing Yoga School Yoga Therapy Certificate Program is a comprehensive study for students of yoga to continue their education and training. Our programs prepare students to become Yoga Therapists, and offers students a unique opportunity for more extensive study of yoga and self-development. Steeped in quality, excellence, and integrity, SCHYS offers a complete education in the art, science, and philosophy of yoga.
This program preserves the wisdom of the ancient traditions while adapting them to meet the needs of our contemporary society and busy lifestyles. While the content and time-commitment of this course is demanding, we are flexible and we encourage and support students to cultivate their own inner resources and resiliency with commitment and self-discipline.
The teachings of T.Krishnamacharya and T.K.V. Desikachar provide the foundation of all our programs. The integrity and depth of our programs is strengthened by the diverse backgrounds of our faculty, each steeped in the teachings of the Krishnamacharya lineage. Every faculty member brings insight from the different yoga styles and traditions they have studied. SCHYS students leave our programs prepared to teach different populations safely, successfully, and compassionately in a variety of settings.
This is a three-year program and includes SCHYS 300-Hour Program as Year One. Students who have a 300-Hour RYT from other programs must still complete SCHYS 300-Hour Program because the teachings in Year Two and Year Three build from the teachings learned in Year One.
Year One: Introduces students to the concepts and tools of Yoga Therapy, establishing the framework students will use for the remainder of the program. Graduates may request to receive a 300-Hour Yoga Teacher Training certificate, from SCHYS, and may be eligible for Yoga Alliance's 300-hour Registry (RYT-300).
Year Two: Advances the concepts and tools of Yoga Therapy - focusing on the use of Yoga Therapy to treat structural issues. Students begin to work with individual clients (under close supervision by their Faculty-Mentor), using the tools and knowledge learned thus far. Graduates are considered Apprentice Yoga Therapists.
Year Three: The final step prepares students to use all the tools of yoga therapy in cases of clients with more complex body-mind-spirit imbalances. Students continue to work with individual clients (under the supervision of their Faculty-Mentor), using all the tools and knowledge learned throughout the program. Graduates are Certified Yoga Therapists and may apply for C-IAYT status with the IAYT.
This program utilizes many different educational formats as methods for learning - including weekend program modules, online classes, practicum, faculty mentorship, and residential retreats.
